it seems kinda cool, but the fact that it seems to ignore the existence of facebook is disquieting. It should work towards some level of integration at least for contacts.

Interesting post. Not because of the music, but because it got me thinking about how the other day I opened up youtube and noticed a “Twelves Remix” in the suggested links box and checked it out and liked it. I can’t remember which Twelves Remix it was, or how The Twelves got into my youtube recommended list, but then this got posted on pmore’s blog and I thought “it was probably a previous twelves remix that pmore posted” but I looked back and couldn’t find anything in his archives from the twelves. I guess the climax of this story is that I really no longer have a concrete answer to the question “who introduced you to ________?”

My DJ buddy Woody and me went to see these guys (the Twelves, not groove armada) when they came to Ottawa. the only thing I knew about them was they were brought here by people that bring good hip hop to Ottawa, and I intentionally only listened to one of their songs on myspace so that I was going in blind. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Partly because of the opening act (Strayotics), and partly because of booze, but mostly because we got to just dance like two funky dudes on the dancefloor instead of having to DJ for other people. I literally had aching muscles the next day because of the workout, lol. Also, I doubt I’ll get another chance to see them since they’re from Brazil (I think), so I’m glad I got to see them. That’s MY story about the Twelves :)

Google Chrome OS Explained

Google had a big Chrome OS event today and they showed the above video.

What gets me is the “nothing is stored on your computer” bit. So my music library is gone. All of my documents and photos are gone. I have no way of using them. It’s not as if my music and playlists are stored somewhere on the internet. All of my photos aren’t saved somewhere on the web. And even if many of them are on the Internet they can only get there once I download them to my computer. And what about my documents. Not everything I write or have written has been converted to a google doc. Most of it is in MS Word as a real .doc.

While much of what I’m doing on my computer is on the internet… writing this post for example, how am I supposed to get the assets I need for this post. If a post needs an image I have to put the image somewhere, (most likely) edit the photo and then upload it through tumblr. I can’t do that with Chrome OS.

So Chrome seems like a good idea for an operating system as soon as you really think about the things you do on your computer, you realize that you need more than just a web browser. Google would like to think you watch all your videos on YouTube, have all your chats in GChat, and write all your documents in a Google Doc… I don’t know where they think people listen to music (Pandora or Last FM?), but the I don’t think most of the world can make the switch. I know I can’t.

I was agreeing with you all the way up until I went: dual boot. the point of Chrome OS is to get you into your system QUICKLY, so you can check the net. if I have a few seconds and want to check my stuff quickly, and my system is off, this might be of value. Although it does mean that I can’t even save any of the images or links that I find, unless I up them directly to a blog, and downloading torrents would have to be done remotely as well…. it does seem a little strange, I’ll admit. I was completely sold on Chr-OS until now, but I’m not counting it out just yet.
